The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously 5-0 at Tuesday evening’s, October 18, 2022 Commission legislative voting meeting to proclaim October as Behavior Health Month in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of good mental health.  This month, the BOC, will work together with other local agencies to promote the availability of appropriate and accessible services.

“Stomp the Stigma was an initiative I am proud of bringing to Douglas County a few years ago to raise awareness on behavioral health, Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, Chairwoman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners said. “With 40 years of experience in healthcare prior to being elected to office, I’ve seen how important it is to raise awareness towards behavioral health especially coming out of a pandemic.”

Individuals suffering from behavioral health conditions recover if they receive the necessary support and services in their communities. Unfortunately, many people who need help with behavioral health issues cannot get it due to the stigma attached. Therefore, it is important that the public is aware of the importance of good behavioral health.

Community Services Board CEO Raye Lightford and members of his team delivered and presented the proclamation before the Board of Commissioners during the BOC’s Tuesday evening Commission meeting.
