Vice-Chair and District 3 Commissioner Tarenia Carthan Resigns from
Douglas County Board of Commissioners
(Douglasville, GA)- Vice-Chair and District 3 Commissioner Tarenia Carthan has resigned from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, effective Feb 15, 2024.
Carthan was first elected to office in 2018 to serve the constituents of District 3. She was named Vice Chairman of the Board by her peers for the 2023-24 term. Prior to her resignation, Carthan was serving her second consecutive term which began in 2023 and runs through 2026.
Board Chairman Phil Miller expressed gratitude for Carthan’s contributions saying, “We are grateful for Vice Chair Carthan’s service to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and to the citizens of Douglas County. Her passion and advocacy for a wide range of issues has left an indelible impact on this community. We wish her well in her future endeavors.”
A special election to fill Vice-Chair Carthan’s vacated seat will be held on May 21, 2024. In the interim, the Board of Commissioners will operate with a quorum of three members, including Chairman Phil Miller, District 1 Commissioner Ricky Dobbs, Jr., and District 4 Commissioner Mark Alacarez.
Qualifying for the special election shall be held at Douglas County Courthouse, Board of Elections office, 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville, Georgia 30134, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024, and ending at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. The qualifying fee is $651.79.
All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the special election may register to vote through the close of business on April 22, 2024. Early voting will be held beginning April 29, 2024, through May 17, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at various locations throughout Douglas County. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
