[ARCHIVED] Douglas County Government Appoints Project Management Director

(Douglasville, GA)- Douglas County Government has announced the appointment of Julia Janka as the new Director of the Douglas County Project Management Office. The Board of Commissioners (BOC) approved her hiring by unanimous vote during the Board of Commissioners legislative meeting on Tuesday, May 21st, with Janka set to begin her role on May 28th, 2024.

 

Julia Janka brings over 20 years of experience in Project and Program Management to Douglas County. She holds master’s degrees in both Project Management and Information Systems Management, along with a Graduate Certificate in IT Security. Janka has an extensive track record, including managing grants of up to $120 million for programs aimed at enhancing public safety through anti-terrorism and prevention measures within metropolitan areas. Her commendable work with the U.S. Army’s Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Control Program earned her two Civilian Army commendations. Additionally, Janka has also taught as an adjunct professor for her alma mater, Keller Graduate School of Management, specializing in Project Cost and Scheduling.  

 

Beyond her professional achievements, Janka has been an active contributor to various boards. She is currently a member of the Project Management Institute. She has served as Board Chair for Georgia Hands and Voices, Treasurer for Age Well Forsyth, and a board member Noah’s Ark & Company. 

 

The Project Management Office (PMO) will play a pivotal role in standardizing project management processes and facilitating the sharing of resources, methodologies, tools, and techniques across the organization. The PMO will monitor project progress, performance, and outcomes through regular reporting, ensuring that all issues are identified, and corrective actions are implemented. The office will also help identify potential risks across projects and implement risk management strategies to mitigate them, assisting in developing contingency plans to address unforeseen issues that may arise during project execution.

 

In her new role, Janka will be responsible for ensuring that projects align with the strategic plan set forth by the citizens of Douglas County. This strategic plan encompasses key areas such as public safety, infrastructure, economic development, public health, recreational facilities and programs, and transportation. With Janka’s direction, she will ensure that the citizens’ needs are met through overseeing projects to better enhance the quality of life for Douglas County citizens.

 

Janka’s expertise in Project and Program Management will be invaluable in supporting the organization’s mission. This appointment reflects Douglas County Government’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of leadership and service.
