(Douglasville, GA) – Vice Chair and District 4 Commissioner Mark Alcarez is among a select group of state and county leaders chosen to shape the curriculum for newly elected commissioners at the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Core Curriculum Review Retreat. This exclusive event is a key component of the ACCG Lifelong Learning Academy, which reviews and recommends updates for the core curriculum required for new County Commissioners.
The ACCG Lifelong Learning Academy was created with vital input from experienced County Commissioners who identified the core and specialty track requirements and participated in the development of course outlines based on the issues and decision-making challenges often faced by county officials. The Lifelong Learning Academy curriculum includes three components: Core Certification, Specialty Certification, and Continuing Education. With 810 County Commissioners in the State of Georgia, Commissioner Alcarez was one of only seven Commissioners invited to participate alongside instructors and County Managers from across the state.
“As a first-time participant in the ACCG Core Curriculum Review Retreat, I’m honored to help shape the very curriculum that all new commissioners across Georgia must complete for their certification,” stated Commissioner Alcarez. “As a County Commissioner, it's vital that we continuously improve our knowledge and skills to better serve our communities. I am proud to be selected and represent Douglas County.”
Commissioner Alcarez’s participation in this retreat underscores his commitment to the professional development of county officials and to the betterment of governance in Douglas County and beyond.
The retreat is scheduled for Monday, August 19th, 2024, and Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, in Athens, Georgia.
