The Douglas County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved nearly 3 million dollars in funding to move ahead with County Road construction that include the Stewart Mill and Reynolds Intersection Improvement Project.

“I’m pleased to see this project move forward for my citizens,” District 3 Commissioner Tarenia Carthan said. “If there’s any common theme I hear from my constituents, it’s congestion they face when commuting and I hope the action of this Board coming together to move this project forward is received well.”

The Board of Commissioners approved $2.1 million that was allocated through the 2016 SPLOST and an additional allocation of $640,000 in 2016 SPLOST from funds from the Lee Road Phase II Widening project.

“The Stewart Mill Road & Reynolds Intersection Improvements project has been awarded to the low bidder, The Corbett Group,” Transportation Director Miguel Valentin said. “Work on the project is anticipated to begin in October 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The project consists of adding a turn lane from Stewart Mill onto Reynolds for motorists coming from Chapel Hill Road.”

The Board of Commissioners approved the funding for the road project at a legislative voting meeting in early September.
