Douglas County, GA - The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously, 5-0, during their legislative meeting, Tuesday, November 1, 2022, to honor retired educators by proclaiming Sunday, November 6, 2022, as “RETIRED EDUCATORS DAY.”

“It’s important to honor the dedication and commitment of our retired educators because of the countless hours provided to our students in Douglas County,” Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, Chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners said. “Retired educators have left a footprint on the minds and characters of so many students who have contributed as citizens in our society.”

The retired educators of Georgia donate thousands of hours of volunteer service and make invaluable contributions to the welfare of their respective communities across the state.

There are more than 141,000 retired educators in Georgia, and many are members of the Georgia Retired Educators Association which works to improve the welfare of retire educators.
