Douglas County Launches Revamped Film and Entertainment Office, Receives Statewide ‘Camera-Ready Community’ Designation
(Douglasville, GA) – Lights, camera, action! Douglas County Government is thrilled to announce the launch of its newly revamped Film and Entertainment Office—a one-stop shop for the burgeoning film and entertainment industry in Douglas County. An overview of office operations along with a data snapshot of the film industry’s potential economic and community impact was presented during the Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
“This is a huge milestone for Douglas County, and certainly is a ‘lights, camera, action moment!’” exclaimed Chairman Romona Jackson Jones. “With our Film and Entertainment Office fully operational, we’re opening the door to new creative projects and economic growth that will benefit the entire community. I couldn’t be more thrilled about the opportunities ahead,” said Chairman Jones.
The Douglas County Film and Entertainment Office is led by an interdepartmental team, including Yvette Jones, Douglas County’s Chief Communications Officer; Wendy Caudle, Constituent Services Manager and primary contact for film inquiries related to County-owned facilities; and Allison Duncan, Planning and Zoning Manager and primary point of contact for temporary special event permitting in unincorporated Douglas County.
In addition to its revamped operations, the County has also been granted a ‘Camera-Ready Community’ designation by the Georgia Film Commission. This important status provides film and television productions with a centralized source of information for permitting, location options, and other resources.
“We at the Georgia Film Office are excited to work with the new Douglas County Film and Entertainment Office as our Camera-Ready office for Douglas County,” said Craig Dominey, Camera Ready Manager for the Georgia Film Office. “From hit TV series like Stranger Things and The Walking Dead, Douglas County has long been a popular filming location. We welcome the Douglas County Film and Entertainment Office to the Camera-Ready family and look forward to a successful partnership for years to come.”
“It is an honor to have the ‘Camera-Ready’ designation,” stated Chief Communications Officer, Yvette Jones, who serves as Douglas County’s Camera-Ready Liaison. “We also see this as a mutually beneficial opportunity. Our goal is to be a resource for the creative arts community for the benefit of the Douglas County community as a whole. We are thrilled to usher in this new era of film and media assistance in Douglas County.”
The Film and Entertainment Office has also partnered with other stakeholders to offer educational and informational opportunities for creators, including the inaugural “Film Taster: A Taste of Working in Film” workshop series, which was held on October 4, 2024, at the Woodie Fite Senior Center. This comprehensive workshop, designed in partnership with the Georgia Arts Initiative, offered insight into the dynamic film and entertainment industry and featured classes taught by industry professionals who provided tips and strategies for working in the creative arts industry.
“We’re excited to be partners in the community,” said Michael Jones, Operations Manager for Great Point Studios in Douglasville. “It’s been a long time coming, but we are now fully operational and within the last month, we welcomed our first production to the county! This is an opportunity to expand our partnership with the community, and we look forward to bringing more productions to Douglas County,” said Jones.
