The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has officially adopted the Fiscal Year 2025 budget, which reflects a commitment to fiscally responsible governance guided by the county’s citizen-driven strategic plan.
The $131 million General Fund budget, as proposed by County Administration, passed with a unanimous 5-0 vote during the Tuesday, November 19 Board of Commissioners legislative meeting. The passage of the budget followed a robust internal and external engagement process which included public input and in-depth meetings with elected officials and department heads.
“I appreciate the thoughtful collaboration of our County Administration, Board of Commissioners, and dedicated workforce in crafting a budget that addresses the evolving needs of our community while remaining mindful of the economic landscape,” Commission Chair Dr. Romona Jackson Jones stated. “We remain committed to delivering superior public service as we work toward our ongoing goal of moving Douglas County forward,” said Chairman Jones.
In alignment with the county’s strategic priorities, $46.7 million- more than a third of the budget- has been allocated to public safety, encompassing a salary increase for deputies approved in 2024. In addition to public safety, the budget includes a $22 million allocation to the judicial system and another $21 million dollars for public works, economic development, and quality-of-life resources in Parks and Recreation, Libraries, and Senior Services.
“We are pleased to once again present a balanced budget to our community,” said County Administrator David Corbin. “We take very seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of taxpayers’ dollars and to deliver on the goods and services they expect. We will continue to operate in a fiscally responsible manner as we work toward making Douglas County a desirable destination for residents, visitors, and industry,” said Corbin.”
The adoption of the FY 2025 budget follows the BOC’s recent rollback of the millage rate for the second consecutive year, providing a measure of financial relief to Douglas County taxpayers.”
