(Douglasville, Ga.) The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has voted to maintain the current millage rate. The decision followed an evaluation of budgetary information from the County Administration Office and input from citizens during three public hearings.
Following a 5-0 unanimous vote during its legislative meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Commissioners formally approved a resolution to adopt a millage rate of 12.063 mills, unchanged from the previous year. Last year, the Board of Commissioners rolled back the millage rate for the second consecutive year.
Commissioners had considered a proposal from the County Administrator’s Office to increase the millage rate by 3.7 mills, which was recommended after careful consideration of the county’s fiscal needs balanced against the growing strain of inflation, increased costs of goods and services, and uncertain state and federal funding.
“Everyone is feeling the strain of higher costs during this economic season,” said BOC Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones. “We don’t want to place an additional burden on our citizens by raising taxes. The people have spoken. We listened.”
Administrators will explore options to streamline costs while simultaneously prioritizing providing optimal service to citizens as the county prepares for the 2026 budget which will be presented and voted upon at the end of fiscal year 2025.
