If application completed online, please come into the probate office to complete the process. 

Weapons Carry License applications are accepted without an appointment Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. The application process will include taking a photo for your license and fingerprinting. Fingerprints are processed in our office.

Requirements: Cost $77

( U.S. Citizen)

Applicant must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Applicants under the age of 21 are eligible for a permit if:
    • they are at least 18 years of age,
    • they have proof that they have completed basic training in the United States armed forces, and
    • they are currently serving or have been honorably discharged from the United States armed forces (documentation will be required).

Applicant must reside in Douglas County.  The applicant must present proof of his/her residence in Douglas County which can be accomplished in one of two ways:

  • Produce a valid Georgia Driver's License or state-issued identification card that reflects a Douglas County, Georgia physical address.
  • If the applicant has a P.O. Box listed on their driver's license, he/she must provide at least 2 documents showing his/her name and Douglas County address.
    • At least 1 of the documents provided must be a current utility bill associated with a residence or property tax bill, real estate deed, lease agreement, voter's registration, car registration, etc.
    • 1 document can be a bank statement, credit card bill, cell phone bill, etc. 

(Born Outside of the U.S.)

Applicant must provide a secondary form of identification as proof of lawful presence in the United States. Acceptable documents include any of the following that apply:

  • Passport, Permanent Resident Card, or Employment Authorization Card with valid Hunting License. 

Licenses for Former Law Enforcement Officers

Georgia law provides that you can receive a Weapons Carry License at the discounted rate of $7.00 if you meet certain requirements. If fingerprinting is required an additional fee will apply.  Applicants who are retired law enforcement officers must bring in documentation showing their retired status as well as documents which indicate that they served as a law enforcement officer for 10 of the 12 years immediately preceding the retirement of such person as a law enforcement officer.  These requirements are pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 16-11-129 (h)(1), which specifically states:

  IF RETIRED, have served as a law enforcement officer for at least 10 of the 12 years immediately preceding retirement; OR

 IF DISABLED, have served as a law enforcement officer for 10 years and left employment as a law enforcement officer as a result of a disability arising in the line of duty

 Must be included in one of the following classes of officers:

  • Peace officer employed by the United States government
  • Peace officer employed by the State of Georgia
  • Peace officer employed by a political subdivision of the State of Georgia; or Conservation rangers.

Whether by election or appointment, have given your full time to:

  • The preservation of public order
  • The protection of life and property; or
  • The prevention of crime.

Please be prepared to provide the Court with documentation that specifies the start and end dates of service

Renewal 

A Weapons Carry License can be renewed within 90 days or less until the expiration of the original weapons carry license, or not more than 30 days after the license has expired. The total cost of a renewal Weapons Carry License is $35.00 payable to the Douglas County Probate Court by cash, cashier’s check, money order or credit/debit card. A processing fee of 4.5% is charged separately per card transaction.

  • Produce a valid Georgia Driver's License or state-issued identification card that reflects a Douglas County, Georgia physical address.
